DeGolyer Tea Room at Dallas Arboretum

Despite the stifling 95 degree weather, we enjoyed our day atDallas Arboretum with SIL & BIL. I love autumn so I enjoyed the pumpkin displays and the Charlie Brown Great Pumpkin area. I kind of wish we could go back for the Christmas display! There are several places to eat at the Arboretum. The DeGolyer Tea Room offers an afternoon tea so we made reservations for the Harvest Tea at 2 pm (there is also a seating at 11 am). It was wonderful to sit in the air conditioned tea room & enjoy treats and tea. Here's what we enjoyed:
To start, Pumpkin Tea. The second course offered Mango Mint Hibiscus Tea and the third course offered Earl Grey Tea. It was fun to drink from a real teacup, something we never do at home because one, we're afraid of breaking my grandma's teacups, and two, a teacup is kind of small and we prefer large mugs of tea. Servers came around several times during each course to refill empty teacups, so there was plenty of tea.
The first course was Harvest Chicken Consomme with Cheese Wafer. The wafer was delicious and had a bit of a spicy kick after you ate it.
The second course, a tower of Tea Sandwiches.
Closer view of Chicken Salad in a phyllo cup. These were really good.
Curried Egg Salad, Turkey with Orange Butter, Pimiento & Bacon, Creamed Cucumber.
My favorite was, of course, the pimiento & bacon even if the bread had become a bit soggy. I really liked the creamed cucumber, too, but the bread was definitely a bit soggy.

Third course:
Assorted Scones served with Strawberry Jam & Clotted Cream. Lemon Torte, Amaretto Brownie, Pecan Tarts, Apple Spice Cake, Macadamia Nut Cookie (I think), and Chocolate Covered Strawberries.
We all were disappointed in the Apple Spice Cake because it was too heavy on the cloves.
My favorite was the Amaretto Brownie. SP liked the Lemon Torte. The scones with jam & cream were good, too. I love clotted cream!

I liked that we were served all three teas listed on the tea menu card. I didn't especially like the Mango Mint Hibiscus, but fortunately SP did so he finished mine. This was a nice afternoon treat with SP's sister and her husband. Not every single item was to my liking but there was plenty of variety. All of this food was definitely filling for me. I had trouble finishing the delicious brisket burger they made for us later that night for dinner (the dog got a treat!).

If you're in the Dallas area, I highly recommend the Dallas Arboretum and the afternoon tea. It's a really nice day out.
