Experimenting with Square Foot Gardening

20230614_100848

Since the very beginning of this adventure, if we wanted to grow some of our favorite herbs and veggies, we’ve needed permission from the campground before we could start planting!

Although I’m not working at our current location, the campground has graciously allowed us to have a small 4×4 raised bed garden!

In the past, we’ve always used large pots for individual plants, so it will be exciting to see how our current garden will progress!

Of course, we want to get the most out of our garden, so after some research, we’ve decided to try the Square Foot Gardening method.

However, we couldn’t help but wonder… just how much can we plant in our small garden?

Well, the spacing formual seems to be pretty simple. For each square you can either plant one extra large plant… or four large plants… nine medium plants… or 16 small plants!

Our little 4×4 garden gives us 16 individual spots for planting!

So far we have planted tomatoes, bell peppers, oregano, dill, basil, parsley, rosemary and cilantro!

With a few spots left, we hope to grow lettuce greens, spinach, cucumber and perhaps we’ll even try our hand at some carrots!

Square Foot Gardening seems to be the perfect solution for people like me, who don’t have a lot of space, yet still want to be able to grow their own veggies!

We’ll keep you posted on how things grow!

Until next time,

Peace, love and safe travels!
