How To Grow Cucumbers With No Soil

I have been studying so much about hydroponic vegetable growing, and the more I research, the more I am convinced that hydroponic growing is the best option for someone who only has limited outdoor space available. The product hydroponic growing yields are also very nutrient-dense and the plants seem to grow more quickly, as well. I just found this terrific video on Youtube by Arms Family Homestead that guides you through the process of growing hydroponic cucumbers step by step. The Youtuber adds a special mixture of fertilizer, calcium nitrate, and Epsom salt to the hydroponic growing water, which helps the cucumbers grow very quickly. This method uses Master Blend fertilizer, which is one of the most popular fertilizers among many hydroponic growers and can be found either online or at your local garden center.

Materials:

  • 5-gallon bucket
  • 1 tablespoon of Master Blend 41838 fertilizer
  • 1 tablespoon of 1500 Calcium Nitrate
  • 1/2 tablespoon Epsom salt
  • A net cup (or any plastic cup that you can cut holes and slits in)
  • Clay pebbles

Directions:

First, you will learn how to enrich the water with three ingredients, (fertilizer, calcium nitrate, and Epsom salt), that you will use in the bucket where you will grow the hydroponic cucumbers.

Then, you will cut a hole in the top of your 5-gallon bucket, large enough t fit the little net cup into. You will then, place the small cucumber plant in the net cup surrounded by pebbles and set it inside the hole in the top of the bucket. You barely want the water to touch the bottom of the basket that holds the plant. After that, you just keep a check on the water level, but the plant grows on its own water underneath and doesn’t require any maintenance.

Hydroponic growing is such a great idea, I can’t believe I haven’t done it sooner.
