I'm having a real moment with salmon lately, and this Maple Glazed Salmon is my newest obsession.

It started when I recently made my baked salmon fillet. I adore everything about it, but I wanted a recipe that was even faster to make, and a baked salmon recipe so that the stovetop is free to use. Enter: this 5-ingredient maple glazed salmon.

I adore quick recipes in general, and I know you all do too. Anytime I ask for recipe requests, the most popular response is "quick meals". Friends, this recipe is just that!

Recipe features

  • Can be made using fresh or frozen salmon.
  • The marinade requires just 4 simple ingredients.
  • The entire recipe comes together in about 15 minutes, making it a quick and healthy weeknight meal that's packed with protein and omega-3's.

Ingredients

Salmon - You can use fresh salmon from the seafood counter, or frozen then thawed salmon, which is what I normally do. For the highest quality, opt for wild caught salmon if you can.

Maple syrup - No substitution! It's what makes this recipe so tasty.

Soy sauce - Substitute tamari for a gluten free option. You can use coconut aminos, but it'll make the glaze a bit sweeter than intended.

Garlic - Fresh is best! You can substitute ½ teaspoon garlic powder in a pinch.

Cornstarch - Necessary in order for the glaze to thicken. All purpose flour should work as well.

Instructions

Make the marinade. Begin by whisking the maple syrup, soy sauce and garlic cloves together in a small bowl; set aside.

Marinate the salmon. Place the salmon skin side down on a foil-lined baking sheet and sprinkle the fillets with a pinch of salt. Brush HALF of the marinade over the salmon.

Bake. Place the salmon in the oven and bake it for 12 minutes, or until it flakes easily. Then, switch the oven to broil and broil it for 2-3 minutes.

Create the glaze. While the salmon is baking, pour the remaining marinade into a small saucepan. Whisk in the cornstarch, then heat the marinade over medium-low heat, whisking occasionally until it thickens, 3-5 minutes.

Finish the salmon. Once the salmon is done, remove it from the oven, then brush it with the remaining marinade or spoon the marinade overtop (it should now resemble a glaze since it's thickened).

Tips, tricks and FAQs

  • To ensure the salmon doesn't stick to the foil, you may want to spray the foil with a small amount of cooking spray.
  • Make sure to use pure maple syrup -- that is, maple syrup without any added sugar.
  • I opted to omit any sort of garnish, but if you're looking for a garnish the finish the dish off, I'd go with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.

How can you tell when salmon is done?

The cook time varies a bit based on the thickness of you salmon fillets. To ensure doneness, use your fork to flake the salmon. If it flakes easily with hardly any effort, it's done. If not, bake for 1-2 more minutes.

Is it ok to eat salmon skin?

The salmon skin is nutrient-dense, and yes, it's safe to eat. The only thing is that the texture of the skin may be a little off-putting.

What sides pair well with maple glazed salmon?

So many things! I recommend my Instant Pot broccoli, fried brussels sprouts, spicy cucumber salad, Instant Pot fried rice, or my bone broth rice. Or honestly, pretty much any kind of veggies work great as a side.

Storage

Refrigerator: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

Reheating: To reheat, place salmon on a baking sheet and warm it in the oven at 275° for about 15 minutes. Turning the oven up any higher may result in dry salmon.
