Timely nuggets of information and ideas we want to share with you.

Amazon has an entire app store just for Alexa. They’re called Alexa Skills.  If you click on the Alexa Skills link it will take you to over 8 pages of Alexa Skills.  They range in topic and desirability.  Some are better than others.  I’ve recently read about two that get good reviews:

Audible Stories are free to enable and download.  Audible membership is not required.  These stories have 12 genres to choose from.  Ask your Alexa device to open Audible stories to hear a list of the genres.  Or ask Alexa to go to Audible stories and read you or your child a story.  It’s wonderful for kids and adults.  Choose from the collection of genres like family, sci-fi, comedy, romance, adventure, romance, comedy, night-time and several others.

Monster Guard is great for any child afraid of monsters.  My youngest daughter made me check the closet and look under her bed in her room for monsters every night before she went to bed.  I could have used this Monster Guar Alexa Skill.

This skill is hosted by the friendly monster “Monty”.  Monster Guard scans the child’s bedroom for monsters and many other terrifying creatures and then activates a sonic forcefield to keep them all away. Through sound effects, charming character voices and custom theme music, each session features unique audio from Monty, so it does not get repetitive.

These are personality frameworks that help us know how we will respond to expectations – our own and others. The quiz takes less than 5 minutes.  You receive your Tendency and a brief description.  You are invited to download a more complete explanation, which I did

This is an at-home water test that has received the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.  Their chemists found that this test kit was able to accurately determine if a home’s drinking water contained high levels of dissolved lead according to the EPA guidelines.  The test kit has very clear step-by-step instructions and is easy to use.  The consumer group using the test kit gave the kit high marks for speedy test results, usually in about 10 minutes. Good Housekeeping chemists reviewed the company’s quality assurance procedures and felt confident that the kits produced accurate results.  Once you have the results you can determine if you need further lab-based testing.   $39.99 for two test kits.

Easyplant sells no-fail live indoor plants in their “innovative self-watering pots”.  Their self-watering technology allows users to only water the plants once a month. They do not sell the pots separately.  Plants in a pot start at $49.00.   The pots come in 5-7 different colors.
